What are the Benefits of a Keto Lifestyle?
First, let me discuss why I started living a ketogenic lifestyle.
I have struggled all of my life with losing weight and keeping it off. My weight has fluctuated from a high of 275 lbs to a low of 188 lbs, back up to 240 lbs then bouncing between 210 & 240 lbs for the past 5 years. Throughout my weight loss journey I have tried several ways to lose weight such as low fat, HCG shots and low carb. Every time I tried to eat low fat I would not last more than a few weeks because I was hungry and tired. I did lose weight with the HCG shots, but I was not able to keep the weight off long term, and it is very frustrating to follow. A low carb diet worked for me, but in the past I did not have the proper mindset to keep doing it. I would lose weight, and keep it off for a while, but then I would inevitably slip up and then give up.
In November of 2017 my wife challenged me to see who could lose 10 lbs the quickest and so I made it a point to start to live a keto lifestyle for myself, and for my family. Since that time I have been steadily losing weight, but it is the other benefits of a keto lifestyle that keep me going. I now have more energy, the pain and inflammation in my joints and body is gone, my intestinal issues are gone, my mental concentration has improved and I am sleeping much better. Since I started my keto lifestyle I have slipped up, and I was quickly reminded why I never want to go back to my old eating habits. I ate two meals (dinner one day and lunch the next day) that were not ketogenic (fast food and Mexican) and for almost two weeks all of the issues listed above that had cleared up came right back. I also “gained” 10 lbs that took a little over two weeks to lose. I say that I “gained” 10 lbs because those 10 lbs were not fat, it was mostly water retention as a result of the foods that I ate. In the past I would have seen that weight “gain” and said “forget it I am going back to the junk food” but, not this time. I never want to feel that way again, and living a keto lifestyle will make sure that I never do. So I learned from my mistake, reminded myself why I started living a keto life, and quickly got back to living keto.
The benefits that I have enjoyed since starting my keto life are:
Less body aches/reduced inflammation
More energy (so much more that I now Want to get out and do things)
Better concentration levels
Reduced hunger and cravings
Keto has helped me with all of these and that’s why I live this lifestyle and recommend it to you. I know that this may sound too good to be true, and that you may doubt what I am saying. If you are still unsure I challenge you to try it for 30 days, and see for yourself how easily the weight comes off, and how much better you feel. You will not regret it!
